Dear editor,
For around three years, our national dailies were obsessed with the militant wrath of JMB and its leaders Shaikh Abdur Rahman and the notorious Bangla Bhai. But ever since their capture in the beginning of 2006, the media seems to have totally forgotten that even with its severed heads (Bangla bhai and Shaikh), the monster called JMB can still grow other heads and as such, the threat has just been subdued and not entirely stopped.
I was glad to read the cover story of Slate’s April issue, which indirectly focused on this particular view and recapitulated the horrors that the people of Baghmara faced during JMB’s reign there. I would like to thank Mahtab Haider for his sincere efforts at bringing these issues up once again so eloquently.
I feel that it is about time that the government and law enforcement agencies work hand-in-hand with the media and the common public at apprehending all JMB members and bringing a stop to militancy.

   Dear Editor,
Tanim Ahmed’s ‘People power at Phulbari’ was mesmerising as it actually illuminated the individual sentiments and emotions that combined to become the greatest weapon that even the law enforcement agencies could not overcome.
Besides the angle of the article, the writing style and the separate but brief introductions to each individual was great. He also did a brilliant job at sketching out the contrasts and shades that each character had and which they deserted to finally unite and stand against the common enemy.
All in all, I would like to thank him for this masterful piece and would expect more like this from him in the near future.

   Dear Editor,
If Bangladesh’s cricket has improved, it is only because of coach Dav Whatmore. I believe I am just one of millions of Bangladeshis who hold this opinion as true. Bangladesh’s phenomenal success in this World Cup was only possible because of Whatmore. If Whatmore is leaving, the Bangladesh Cricket Board will be the one to blame.
‘Whatmore changed the very character of the national team, impressing upon his players the value of hard work and discipline, while allowing them to play their natural game.’ I completely agree with the article published in SLATE in April, that Whatmore built a strong nucleus for the team by selecting young, promising and enthusiastic players who have proven their talent somewhat in the World Cup.
