Dear Editor, The 100 things was a top charter of Slate’s last issue. Each of the events and personalities under various sections fitted in very well. It is difficult to pick one from the other to comment on but I liked the presentation and the descriptions very much. The ‘shotroos’ style statement was an interesting one. His alien language is indeed one of the funniest things to hear during the news hours. From stardom to jail, Nolok Babu has completely turned out to be a rock star of no good. Al-Jazeera and KFC are two of my favourite things to have arrived last year. Hafiz Khan Dear Editor, ‘Tirish bochhor poreo ami shadhinota ke khujchhi.’ The line fits in so well with the current state of our country. The liberation for which so many people gave their lives and won the nation independence has apparently been in vain because of our politicians. In any case, Hyder Husyn came back at the right time. I find his songs great because of their relation to reality and the messages he delivers through his songs. The person seems more down to earth than many of our rock stars and showbiz personalities. Rafiq Ibne Fayyaz Dear Editor, The Borneo Diary was a nice animal life feature. Although I am not much into National Geographic or Animal Planet, I found some similarities between the writer’s diary and what I saw on television, especially the bad-boy monkeys. The long-tailed macaques are indeed the hoodlums who snatch away food and items from homes while guarded by so many of their fellows. It was an interesting one. Nishita Faraz Dear Editor, As an avid reader of Slate, I will want more features like 24 hours at DMCH by Saad Hammadi. The piece had a very engaging feel, adorned with witty humour. I also salute Mahfuz Sadique’s courage and brilliance at providing readers with such an informative piece, Blood on your hands, which addressed human rights issues being violated. Sadya Afreen Dear Editor, How time passes. It seems only the other day that my brother used to take me to the Shishu Park every other Tuesday evening. But now it is over 12 years that I last visited the Shishu Park or the National Zoo. I find so many similarities between my memories and the ones recalled by Mubin S Khan in his Nostalgia Blog. The cup was one of my favourite rides though. I enjoyed it more because all the children, and even the adults, feared the ride and screamed during the ride, some vomited too. The writer’s experience at the National Zoo resembles what I had come across. Indeed the Royal Bengal Tigers and lions in the cages are so ill fed that they would hardly find the energy to walk. The crocodiles’ nap looked leisurely, and people ultimately left the place getting bored of the crocodile’s unwillingness to move. The monkeys, all time favourites of all, are possibly now no more. Really it is time to pay tribute to the National Zoo of our country. Hafiz Siddiqui
