Dear Editor,
I really enjoyed the webbie section of your briefly slated in the last issue of Slate, particularly www.easilyamused.com. I visited the site and was pretty amazed by all the stuff they had there. And I agree totalslackers.com has definitely taught me a lot of ways to slack off. The Y5B theory was hilarious, while ‘The meaning of life, FAQ’ was a quite a read. Keep up the good job and I hope more such webbies will be published in the future, or at least till August 25 2040, the day according to Death Clock in one the sites mentioned by you has predicted I will breathe my last!

   Dear Editor,
It really is a sorry sight every time I pass Sadarghaat and look at the ailing Buriganga. As big as it may be, it has become nothing but a drain. Your story has truly done a wonderful job in bringing out the true picture of this once mighty river. All that we can wait and see is whether the concerned authorities can do something about it? As it is they have remained least bothered about this issue for ages, so we don’t expect much to happen.

Rubaiyat Khan’s ‘Not turning a blind eye’ is truly an incredible piece. It was nice to see that there are some responsible people in the country who have taken initiatives to help others armed with appropriate resources. This only shows that one person can make a difference in the world. The photos were also realistic and at par with the write up. I hope that the Bangladesh Eye Hospital continues to offer its noble services for years to come.

‘The real source of terror’ by Zayd Almer Khan was written in an appropriate time and every statement made seems to be true. In a world where we are fighting against elements that are not part of our traditions and culture, it is essential to make sure that our government and other authorities tackle the situation in a right way. There are innumerable aspects that need to be looked into while making such important decisions, the result of which may in fact shape the future of our nation. I believe that madrassahs should be brought to the mainstream because everyone has the right to equal education and be exposed to the ‘real’ world.

‘What the al-Qaeda didn’t do’ was an interesting piece to read. It is obvious that Mahtab Haider went through the painstaking task of researching on the issue and that is what made it so attention-grabbing. We are fed what the western propaganda wants us to believe. While I may not be a ‘supporter’ of the al-Qaeda cause, after reading the piece I was intrigued by its history — I never knew that they had fought the Soviets back in 1989!

   Dear Editor,
I really appreciated your story ‘Headed for a crash’ which came out only a day after the Phoenix building in Tejgaon collapsed. How can the government allow the city to grow without any building code – endangering the lives of hundreds of thousands in this densely packed city. What if Dhaka has a big earthquake now – that we have always feared? How will we cope with the emergency? There will be no government left – there will be only anarchy.
