The former national cricket all-rounder and captain, now the manager of the Bangladesh team speaks of his fears of an unnatural death, his habit of collecting cricket accessories and his regret that his mother could not see his success

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Living with everybody who is important to me. Keeping things about my life on the right track.
What is your greatest fear? Having an unnatural death.
Which historical figure do you most identify with? Everybody is unique in their own way, I don’t identify with anyone as such.
Which living person do you most admire? My father.
Which living person do you most despise? No one in particular, though I may despise certain qualities of certain people.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? My laziness.
What is the trait you most deplore in others? Lying, cheating, a lack of commitment. Some one who fails to stay true to his word.
What is your greatest extravagance? During my playing days I would collect the latest cricket bats and other cricket equipments from all around.
What is your favorite journey? I like driving to different places inside our country. Two memorable journeys by road I had was traveling to Scotland from England, and driving from New York to Buffalo in the US. The scenery was exceptional.
What is your greatest regret’? The fact that my mother did not live long enough to see my success.
What or who is the greatest love of your life? My wife and my children.
What is your current state of mind? Now that my playing days are over, I have been thinking a lot on how to contribute to Bangladesh cricket in newer ways.
What do you consider your greatest achievement? Having played for Bangladesh and also to have led our side.
What is your most treasured possession? My Test cap.
What do you most value in your friends? Honesty.
Who are your favorite writers? I read a lot though no writer is favourite as such. Humayun Ahmed, Emdadul Haq Milon are both good.
Who is your favourite hero of fiction? ‘Himu’, Humayun Ahmed’s fictional character is interesting, though not necessarily interesting.
On what occasion do you lie? Hardly ever. May be light-heartedly as a joke or something at times.
What do you dislike most about your appearance? Nothing in particular. I am quite happy with myself.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse? Can’t think of any word as such.
When and where are you happiest? At home. It is the place where I relax.
If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be? Sujon, again.
What is your favourite occupation? Being a cricket player.
What is the quality you most like in a man? Gratitude and honesty.
What is the quality you most like in a woman? Beauty, softness and a loving and caring nature.
Who are your heroes in real life? Imran Khan and Steve Waugh. Among local players I admire Athar Ali, Minhazul Abedin and Aminul Islam.
What is it that you most dislike? A state of agitation
