The Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its front organisations celebrated the 49th birthday of the party’s senior vice-president, Tarique Rahman, Tuesday midnight.
Dinkal, a Bangla daily published by Tarique Rahman, arranged a programme at its office in the city on Tuesday night to celebrate the occasion.
BRAC University teacher Pias Karim, along with leaders of BNP and its wings, attended the programme and cut a cake.
Tarique, the eldest son of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and the late president Ziaur Rahman, has been in exile in London since September 2008.
He was arrested on March 7, 2007 during the tenure of an army-backed caretaker government and was allowed to travel abroad for treatment in July the following year.
In December 2009, when he had been abroad for over a year, Tarique was made senior vice-chairman with a clear mandate to lead the BNP in the absence of his mother.
In June 2002, Tarique was appointed as joint secretary general of BNP by its standing committee.
He was born in November 20 in 1964.
