Hasina-Khaleda phone talk leakedNew Age Online
The telephone conversation between the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, and the leader of the opposition in the parliament, Khaleda Zia that took place on Saturday evening got leaked on Monday night.
The information minister, Hasanul Haq Inu, hours earlier on Monday said that the conversation should be made public.
Neither the government nor any organisation or person claimed responsibility for the leak.
Hasina, also the Awami League president, phoned Khaleda, also the BNP chairperson, over mobile and they talked for about 37 minutes beginning at 6:23pm.
The conversation, about a dialogue over an election-time government to resolve the current political crisis, is now available online and private television channels are airing it.
Hasanul Haq Inu at a press briefing at the secretariat on Tuesday termed the conversation a state property and said the people should know of it. He, however, said that the government was not behind the leak.
The minister, at an impromptu press briefing at the secretariat on Monday, said that the government should make public the record of conversation between the prime minister and the leader of the opposition. He then said that people should know what they had discussed.
Asked whether the government will publish the record, the minister then said that he would take an initiative in this regard.
The BNP’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party’s central office at Naya Paltan on Tuesday said that conversation being made public was outside the norms.
Khaleda Zia on October 25 announced a 60-hour countrywide general strike beginning on October 27 warning that they would enforce the strike if the government did not initiate talks to resolve the political crisis.
The BNP was demanding a non-party, election-time government for the next parliamentary polls.
