Theatre festival on autumn begins in Ctg

Sharod Natyamela, a theatre festival celebrating the Sharot (autumn) season of Bangla calendar, will being tomorrow in Chittagong.
Like the previous years, Chittagong based cultural organisation Ritu Bhittik Natya Mela Parisad has organised the weeklong festival to celebrate the distinctive features of the season at the Theatre Institute in Chittagong, said a press release.
Six Chittagong based troupes will stage plays. Moreover they will entertain the audience presenting music and dance glorifying beauty of the diverse seasons in the country. A conference will also be organised on the concluding day.
On the opening day Kathak Natya Sampradaya will stage Oti Sadharon Chikishok. 
Loko Theatre, Nandikar, Manchamukut Natya Sampradaya, Tirjak Natyadal, School of Oriental Dance will respectively stage Samayer Proyojone, Court Martial, Pratham Partha, Raktakarobi and Chitrangada in the festival.
The festival has been organised in association with Indian Deputy High Commission in Chittagong.
Season based theatre festival has been organizing in Chittagong since 1991, said Ahmed Iqbal Haider, the convenor of the festival. ‘Each year we organise Baishakhi Natyamela in the summer, Badal Sajher Natok in the monsoon, Sarod Natyamela in the autumn, Nattya Hoimontika in the late Autumn, Magh Nishither Natok in the winter and Basanta Natyautsab in the spring,’ Haider told New Age.
‘Through such festivals we try to introduce our tradition to the younger generation. And it also helps theatre activists to remain busy throughout the year,’ he added.
