Gana Forum’s president Kamal Hossain on Tuesday sought exemplary punishment of the Chhatra League activists who attacked and beat up the newly-elected central committee members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on the Dhaka University campus on Monday.
‘They must be given exemplary punishment within 24 hours as they insulted those BCL men who had sacrificed their lives in the anti-autocracy movements,’ he said while addressing a human chain in front of National Press Club.
Gana Forum formed the human chain in protest against all the financial scandals including the huge Hallmark scam, dispute between the Parliament and judiciary, traffic congestion, deterioration of the law and order situation and repeated hikes of the price of electricity.
Kamal Hossain urged the parents of those BCL activists whose photographs were published in the national dailies to take stern action against them. ‘We also want to see what measures are taken by the Dhaka University’s proctor against them,’ he said.
He lamented that such so-called activists have tarnished the glory of those BCL activists who were appreciated by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founding president. They have been used for the narrow interest of the party, he added.
Kamal, a noted jurist, strongly criticised the unlimited corruption of the BNP government and also the recent financial scandals including the Hallmark scam and the share market’s debacle caused by the current government.
