Two arrested doctors remanded for 4 days, 4 imprisoned
Court CorrespondentA Dhaka court allowed the two arrested doctors to be remanded for four days in connection with the hatching of a conspiracy to kill 3 leaders of the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh.
On Tuesday sub-inspector Saju of Mirpur Model Thana produced the 6 arrested doctors and asked for 10 days of remand. The court allowed remand of two accused physicians for 4 days and ordered the other four to be sent to jail.
The remanded doctors are Dr Mithu and Dr Joynal. The four other accused are Dr Kamrul, Dr Towfiqul Islam, Dr Meher Ali and Dr Mostafa.
The investigation officer also said in his remand prayer that the six accused have to be interrogated to learn the details of the killing plan, recover gun/s and identify the whereabouts of their accomplices.
The CMM Court’s magistrate, Mostafizur Rahman, allowed four days’ remand of the two accused doctors. He also rejected the bail prayer of the defence counsel.
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested dentist Kamrul, 29, and the killer group’s leader Mithu alias Proshanto, 22, Joynal Abedin, 24, Towfiqul Islam Tushar, 26, Moharram Ali, 35, and Mostafa, 26, from a building under construction in Mirpur-3 at 11:30pm on Sunday while they were discussing the murder plot.
The RAB filled two cases with the Mirpur Model Thana against the arrestees and hand them over to the police.
According to the case information, DAB’s leader Mazharul Islam Dolon told Kamrul to kill three doctors of their rival group — Dr Rana, Dr Ujjal and Dr Bahar — after a quarrel.
Kamrul hired Mithu alias Proshanto to kill assistant professor Dr Rana.
Mithu went to Rana’s clinic on August 11 to kill him but failed to do so as employees of the DigiLab, sensing danger, informed the law enforcers of the matter.
