Man wounded in gunfight with RAB in city

Staff Correspondent

A man was wounded in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion on the outer circular road in the capital’s Shahjahanpur early on Friday.
Critically injured Altaf Hossain alias Sagar, 38, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 2:45am, hospital sources said.
As his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagor.
Hospital sources said two bullets entered his throat and shoulder.
In a press statement, RAB -3 claimed that having received information, they set up a check-post on the outer circular road in front of the New Al Madia Hotel. Violating the signal to stop, a red car apparently opened two rounds of fire at law enforcers.
RAB allegedly fired in retaliation, the statement said.
Officers arrested Altaf and another Mohammad Masum, 29, as they tried to escape by leaving the car behind.
RAB searched the car and seized two pistols, five magazines, 10 bullets and three bottles of Phensedhyle and Tk 16,500.
RAB quizzed Masum and based on his statement, seized two more magazines, six bullets and 37 Phensedhyle bottles.
RAB also recovered forged notes worth Tk one lakh and Tk 8,80,000 cash, the statement said.
Shahjahan police station duty officer, Kamal Uddin told New Age that they had heard about the incident but RAB officially had not informed them.
