Bangladesh National Museum celebrated its 99th founding anniversary on Tuesday.
The museum organised a discussion at its Sufia Kamal Auditorium to mark the anniversary.
Addressing the programme, cultural secretary Suraiya Begum said the museum officials were working hard to develop the museum in international standard.
Museum board of trustee member Syed Manjurul Islam said the museum was implementing a digitisation project which would help stop mismanagement and increase protection of the historic articles of the museum.
Professor Manjurul Islam urged the government to provide sufficient land to the museum so that it could establish separate National Art Museum and Modern History Museum.
Bangladesh National Museum director general Prokash Chandra Das, Bangladesh National Museum Board of trustee’s president M Azizur Rahman and deputy keeper Niru Shamsunnahar also present at the programme.
Bangladesh National Museum, formally inaugurated on 17 November 1983, is one of the largest museums in South Asia. Dhaka Museum, formally inaugurated on 7 August 1913, was its forerunner.
The museum is noted for its collection of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin and works of other contemporary artists. The museum also illustrates the struggles culminating in the liberation of Bangladesh.
