Staff Correspondent

The price of aromatic rice increased in last two days on the retail markets in the city due to a government decision of exporting aromatic rice and the prices of spices rose on a surge in demand for the items with Eid-ul-Fitr nearing.
The prices of other commodities, however, remained stable.
Traders said the price of aromatic rice increased because of the export decision by the government but the prices of coarse rice remained steady on the markets.
Aromatic rice (chinigura) price increased by Tk 400 to Tk 4,400 per 50-kg sack on the wholesale market and the item was retailing at Tk 95 to Tk 125 a kg on Sunday, said a trader at Karwan Bazar.
He said it retailed at Tk 90 to Tk 110 a kg on Friday.
The prices of spices increased by Tk 30 to Tk 200 a kg in last two days.
Cumin price increased by Tk 20 to stand at  Tk 480 a kg on Sunday, cloves by Tk 100 to Tk 1,900 a kg, cardamom by Tk 200 to Tk 1,700 a kg and cinnamon by Tk 20 to Tk 260 a kg, retailers said.
The prices of most of the other commodities including vegetables remained unchanged.
The prices of both local and imported garlic increased by Tk 10 a kg. Local garlic was selling at Tk 50 a kg while imported Indian garlic was selling at Tk 90 a kg on Sunday.
The prices of onion and ginger remained stable and were retailing at Tk 26 to Tk 35 a kg and at Tk 55 to Tk 60 a kg respectively.
On Sunday, the price of beef remained stable at Tk 275 to Tk 280 a kg but the price of mutton dropped slightly and was retailing at Tk 380 to Tk 425 a kg. Mutton retailed at Tk 400 to Tk 425 a kg on Friday.
