CU deans’ election tomorrow

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha . Chittagong

The election of deans of Chittagong University will be held tomorrow.
Candidates of pro-Awami League ‘Yellow Panel’ and BNP- Jamaat-backed ‘White Panel’ are contesting in the election for the posts of seven deans for seven faculties.
As the White Panel did not nominate any candidate in two faculties — law and engineering — Professor Abdullah Al Faruk of Yellow Panel has been declared elected.
But no one has come victorious in engineering faculty, as there is an independent candidate against the Yellow Panel contender.
CU acting registrar Professor M Shafiul Alam will act as the election commissioner. The voting will begin at 10:00am and continue till 1:00pm at the business faculty auditorium.
A total of 524 voters are expected to cast their votes in the election.
Earlier, 88 teachers cast their votes in advance on July 30 and August 2. Professor Imran Hossain of Yellow Panel, Professor Mozzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury of White Panel and independent candidate Professor Golam Kibria Bhuiyan are contesting for the post of arts & humanities faculty while Professor Jibon Chandra Paul of Yellow Panel is vying with Professor Mohammad Abdul Karim of White Panel for the post for science faculty.
Professor Abu Taher of Yellow Panel and Professor Jahed Hossain Sikdar of White Panel are contesting from business administration faculty, Professor Hossain Kabir of Yellow Panel and Professor Mohammad Abdul Mannan Chowdhury of White Panel from Social Science Faculty, Professor Khan Towhid Osman of Yellow Panel and Professor Moktar Ahmed of White Panel from biology faculty.
In the newly introduced engineering faculty, Professor Shankar Lal Shaha of Yellow Panel will vie with independent candidate Professor Mohammad Rezaul Hoque. The elected deans will work for two years as per CU Act, 1973.
