Staff Correspondent

A mobile court of the Dhaka North City Corporation on Wednesday fined some shops and restaurants about Tk 4 lakh and sealed off a shop at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall for selling unsafe foods.
Twelve cases were filed by the court, led by executive magistrate Kamal Hossian, during the drive under the supervision of the DNCC.
The drive against food adulteration was also conducted at Farmgate and Green Road, DNCC officials said.
The magistrate sealed off Indian Masala shop at the mall for keeping cooked and non-cooked food items in the same refrigerator.
During the operation, the court detained four employees of different shops for not paying the fines. They were later released after they had paid the fines.
The mobile court also fined Hotel New Star, Banaful and Kosturi Chayanil Hotel and Restaurant at Farmgate Tk 1.5 lakh.
Besides, Café Ali and Amber Hotel at Panthapath were fined a total of Tk 1 lakh while Luscious Pizza, Dhakaiya, Indian Spices, French Corners and BFC at Bashundhara City Mall were fined a total of Tk 1.85 lakh.
During the drive by the mobile court, many shopkeepers kept their businesses at the mall shut, witnesses said.
The magistrate told the reporters that the court fined the hotels, restaurants and shops for selling unhygienic foods and storing food items in unhygienic condition.
