Kabir Suman pays tribute to Humayun Ahmed

Cultural Correspondent

Celebrated Kolkata based singer Kabir Suman has released a song dedicating recently demised iconic writer-playwright-director Humayun Ahmed.
The song titled Humayun Bandona, is available in the popular website www.youtube.com  and is already making waves. Presented in a simplistic manner without using any instrument except a little sitar works , the melancholic tune of the song is a touchy piece.
The composer-songwriter, who has earned popularity amongst the Bangla speaking people across the globe  for his insightful lyrics, has emphasised on the lyrics of the song on Humayun. Ahmed’s incomparable popularity, his unique capacity of storytelling in an effortless manner and the emptiness created in the hearts of the millions of Humayun fans have been featured in the song titled Humayun Bandona.
As the great man passed away in the month of monsoon, the song begins with the lines ‘Shawon meghe ki kothar brishti jhore? Takey bhebei kahinira bhir kore…’. Perhaps, the singer has also expressed his sympathy towards Ahmed’s wife Shawon in an artistic way in the song.
Humayun Ahmed was also very popular in Kolkata. In the book fairs and in the special Puja editions of notable magazines Anandamela, Desh and others, his novels were a great attraction for the readers.
However, Kabir Suman’s song is the only initiative taken by the Kolkata based artistes, litterateur, publishers and readers after the huge popular writer Humayun Ahmed.  The news of his demise has also got very little space in the newspapers and magazines in Kolkata.
