Arch rivals meet in Premier Hockey

Staff Correspondent

Table toppers Mohammedan Sporting Club will be desperate to avenge their Club Cup Hockey Championship defeat when they take on archrivals Abahani Limited in the Dhaka Hockey Premier League today.
The match at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium will begin at 3:15pm and will be telecasted live on ATN Bangla.
Mohammedan, who were eliminated from the Club Cup semi-final by Abahani, will be relying on their national team collection while their day’s challengers are more dependent on their four foreign recruits.
Mohammedan have nine national team players including striker Russell Mahmud Jimmy and penalty corner specialist Mamunur Rahman chayan who scored 14 and 17 goals respectively to become the highest scorer for their side.
Abahani, on the other
hand, got Pakistani striker Sabbir Khan as their top scorer who registered 19 goals in his nine matches in the competition till now.
The match is a must win for Abahani, having 24 points in their tally from nine matches, to keep their title hope alive as they are three points behind Mohammedan.
The sky blues, however, will be missing the service of their first choice goalkeeper Zahid Hossain as the national team goalie is suffering from dengue.
