Steps demanded to stop irregularities in Sylhet rly

Staff Correspondent . Sylhet

Sylhet Kalyan Sangstha on Sunday demanded immediate steps to stop irregularities in the Sylhet railway and improve facilities for the travellers.
Activists of the Sylhet-based social welfare organisation made the demand at a human chain in front of the Central Shaheed Minar at Chowhatta in the Sylhet city.
They said they would launch a tough movement if their demand was not met within the next two months.
Being safe and cost effective journey, people of this region prefer train journey, but they are being deprived of the facility because of the irregularities by a dishonest section of railway officials and employees involved in black-marketing train tickets, they alleged.
The speakers also requested the higher authorities concerned to launch a new train on Sylhet-Dhaka route along with adding fresh compartments to the intercity trains.
SKS founder president Ehsanul Haque Taher chaired the programme, which was addressed, among others, by vice-president Azizur Rahman, general secretary Ali Ahsan Habib, Mayeen Uddin Chowdhury, Bipresh Roy, Zahangir Alam, Salah Uddin Rimon and Shah Alam.
