FFA’s Annual Art Exhibition

Prize giving ceremony will be held tomorrow

The annual exhibition and competition organised by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University will end tomorrow through a prize giving ceremony. 
The current students of the faculty have participated at the 10-day exhibition, which displays over 400 experimental works in diverse mediums at the two Zainul galleries and in three classrooms of the faculty.
The 10-day exhibition began on July 10 and a total of 36 artworks had been declared as the winners of awards in different categories.
Thirty six artworks won prizes at the competition of which Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin gold medal is given for the best work of the competition. The faculty also encourages five students from each of the seven departments.
This year’s Shilpacharja Zainul Abedin gold medal went to Moazzem Hossain, a third-year student of the department of printmaking. Hossain’s award winning artwork titled ‘Shahid Kabir’s Studio’ shows four different realistic images of the studio of eminent artist Shahid Kabir.
In the composition various colour-pots, brushes, water-mug are piled on a table in the studio while some shora (earthenware utensils) and the image of an unfinished painting by Shahid Kabir is hung on the wall.  
MFA (1st session) student Ratneswar Sutradhar’s work Festival of Vulture won the best experimental award in the painting department segment while BFA 4th year student Shoma Surabhi Jannat’s Still Life won the departmental best award.
In the sculpture department, MFA (2nd session) student Rupam Roy’s metal work titled Nijekei Bala won the best experimental award while BFA 4th year student Antu Chandra Modok’s wooden piece Torso won departmental best award.
In the Oriental Art department, MFA student Md. Hasan Morshed’s The Key won the best experimental award and BFA 2nd year student Nipa Rani’s untitled work won the departmental best award.
In the graphic design department, MFA (1st session) student Tamal Baral’s poster work Ekushey won the best experimental award while BFA 4th year student Md. Riyad Hossain’s poster work Bangladesher Kutir Shilpa won departmental best award.
MFA (1st session) student Palash Baran’s untitled woodcut work won Graphic design department’s best experimental award and BFA 3rd year student Rashida Akhter Bobby’s woodcut work Play of Light won best departmental work award.
In the craft department, MFA (1st session) student Sajib Kumar Paul’s wooden work Sankhini won best experimental work while BFA 4th year student Tushar Dey’s metal work Mahua won departmental best award.
 BFA 4th year student Smita Das Tuli’s Composition of Bird won pottery department’s best award while MFA (1st session) Sayeeda Farzana Hossain’s work titled Rashtra Samachar won the best experimental work in the same department.
