Our Correspondent . Barisal

Agitated clients Tuesday night attacked and damaged the offices of the
division-2 and central control room of West Zone Power Development Company, a subsidiary of Power Development Board, Barisal city, demanding power supply.
Sheikh Abdus Sobhan, local councillor, said a big area of the city remained without power supply since early Monday as a transformer went out of order.
WZPDCO failed to resume the power supply after repeated efforts as the repaired transformers failed to tackle the load, which enraged the local people.
The consumers then attacked and damaged doors, windows, wall of the offices at Amanatganj about 9:30pm, the ward councillor acknowledged.
RAB and police forces, with high officials, rushed to the spot and calmed the situation with the help of local elites.
Power supply to the area resumed partially about 2:00am Wednesday and fully in the morning after transformer was replaced, informed local consumers.
ATM Tarikul Islam, executive engineer of WZPDCO Barisal Division-2, said this problem often ensued in different areas of the city for shortage of transformers and spare parts.
‘We have nothing to do if supply of sufficient number of quality transformers, spare parts and planned load control was ensured,’ the WZPDCO official said.
