Admission seekers vandalise Sylhet Tech College

Staff Correspondent . Sylhet

Admission seekers staged demonstration and vandalised the Sylhet Technical College at Dakkhin Surma in the city Sunday morning in protest at the authorities’ decision to end distribution and submission of admission forms.
More than a hundred admission seekers brought out a procession on the college campus at about 10:00am and ransacked furniture and windowpanes of five rooms at academic building, protesting at the closure of distributing and receiving application forms, the campus sources said.
The college authorities on Sunday stopped distribution and submission of the applications from the admission seekers without any prior notice putting their scope to admission in an uncertainty, the sources added.
The Dakkhin Surma police officer-in-charge (investigation), Ranjan Samatha, said on information, a team of Dakkhin Surma police went to the spot and brought the situation under
control.
The Sylhet Technical College acting principal, Nizam Uddin, said they had taken initiative to admit additional number of students in the eleven class in this year following the instruction given by the Technical Education Board.
The process of admitting additional number of students had to close because of Technical Educational Department’s reluctance in this regard, the acting principal said.
