Anamul to lead Jr Tigers in ICC U-19 World Cup

Staff Correspondent

The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Friday named opening batsman Anamul Haque as the captain of Bangladesh Under-19 team for the ICC U-19 World Cup to be held in August in Australia.
Anamul replaced Asif Ahmed, who led the Junior Tigers to the disastrous ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, where Bangladesh were eliminated before the semi-final stage in Malaysia last month.
Asif, however, retained his place in the 15-member squad with at least four changes from the one that lost to Sri Lanka and unfancied Afghanistan despite making a flying start with a massive win over Qatar.
Aslam Hossain, Mohammad Touhid Tarik Khan, Mohamad Jasim uddin and Fazlur Rahman, who were part of the Under-19 Asia Cup squad, have been replaced by Anamul, Abu Jayed Chowdhury, Taskin Ahmed and Liton Kumar Das.
Former national coach Sarwar Imran took over the charge from Ehsanul Haque, who failed to give a reasonable explanation for the Malaysia debacle before the
board directors in the emergencymeeting on July 1.
The team will play three limited-over practice matches in Khulna against a BCB Invitational XI on July 17, 18 and 20 before leaving home for Australia on July 27.
Bangladesh will play in Group D along with South Africa, Sri Lanka and Namibia in the tournament which will be held from August 11 to 27. All of the Bangladesh’s group matches will be held in Brisbane.
