Our Correspondent . Jessore

A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal and another man were killed in separate incidents early Tuesday in Jessore.
Ashiqur Rahman Akul, 50, organising secretary of Jessore district unit of the BNP’s youth front, died at Jessore Medical College Hospital about 3:30am after a local boy allegedly hit him on the head as Akul chided him for throwing stones at neighbours.
Kotwali police officer-in-charge Abdul Jalil told New Age that Hiron, a Class IX student of a local school, clouted Akul on the head with a stick as he told the boy off for sending stones at people in Jessore New Town E-Block area. The incident happened about 10:00pm.
‘This boy [Hiron] is wicked. He is known for his notoriety throughout the neighbourhood,’ the OC added.
Syed Saberul Haq Sabu, general secretary, Jessore district unit BNP, confirmed the death as not politically motivated and said they will hold a three-day mourning programme in his honour.
Post-mortem of the body was done at the hospital. No cases were filed, none was arrested.
In another incident at Jhikargachha upazila, a man was allegedly beaten to death by some villagers who suspected him of stealing fish from their ponds.
Lulu Gazi, 45, died at village Dighori at about 6:00am.
Lulu’s cousin Nuruzzaman complained that Nurul Huda of the same village with his men killed the man.
Post-mortem of the body was done at Jessore MCH. No case was lodged.
