Commemorative book on Tareque Masud launched

A book on the life and works on filmmaker Tareque Masud titled ‘Tareque Masud: Life and Dreams’, was launched by justice Habibur Rahman, former chief adviser of the caretaker government, as chief guest at the British Council auditorium in the city on Saturday.
The book features the excerpts by the speakers at a commemoration programme held at the same venue on August 26, 2011 following the untimely demise of the internationally acclaimed director Tareque Masud, along with five others, in a fatal road accident on August 13 in Manikganj.
In response to Tareque’s widow Catherine, hundreds of friends of the filmmaker gathered at the commemoration programme titled ‘Tareque Masud: His Life and Dreams (1955-2011). Rights activist Hameeda Hossain, artist Mostafa Monwar, filmmaker Nasiruddin Yousuff, filmmaker Morshedul Islam, actress Sara Zaker and Rokeya Prachy, among recalled their memories with Tareque Masud at the programme.
 ‘I was present on the commemorative programme and hoped to see a book on the event,’ justice Habibur Rahman said. ‘I hope this book will help young generation to know more about the talented director.’
Theatre personality Nasiruddin Yousuff said, ‘Tareque promoted the local movies in international arena. He had wonderful caliber of dealing obstacles and hardships in inspiring manner.’
About the title of the book, Masud’s widow Catherine Masud said, ‘The book portray the life of the director as well as the aesthetic and artistic aspects of his movies.’
Dr Kamal Hossain, Rights activist Hameeda Hossain, British Council country director Rosemary Arnott, Tareque Masud’s mother Nurunnahar Masud, writer Shahin Akhter, artist Dhali Al Mamoon, Prathoma publication’s chief executive Zaafar Ahmed, among others spoke at the book launching session.
‘Tareque Masud: Life and Dreams’, published by Prathoma Publication, will be available at the sell-centre of the house at the price of taka one thousand.
