Govt wants to eliminate opposition: BNP

Bdnews24.com . Dhaka

A senior BNP leader on Wednesday alleged that the government was trying to wipe out the opposition through ‘abduction, repression and arrests’.
‘The government cannot tolerate the opposition.
They [government] have become impatient. The government is trying to annihilate the opposition through abductions, repressions and arrests,’ party’s Standing Committee member Mahbubur Rahman said.
He urged the people to protest the ‘conspiracy’ of the government.
Mahbub, a former Army chief, was speaking at a human-chain in front of the National Press Club in the capital held demanding release of the jailed BNP leaders including acting secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
In his admonition of the government for imprisoning the senior opposition leaders he said, ‘The government’s fascist character has shown its true colour thorough this act. ’Calling upon the party leaders and activists, he said, ‘This is not the time to sit silently. This is the time to go to people to unite them.’
