Staff Correspondent

At least 5 people were injured in a clash between 2 groups of the Bangladesh Chhatra League at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University campus on Wednesday.
Activists lead by Ahmedul Bashar and Golam Sharower Mamun, President and secretary of the BCL unit at the university gathered in the playground with sticks and iron rods at about 12:30am.
They were met there by vice-president of the BCL university unit, Debu Kumar Vattacharja.
The ensuing fight between the 2 groups lasted until 4:00am, leaving 5 activists from both groups injured.
Debu Kumar Vattacharja, Humayun Ahmed and 3 other activists were injured in the clashes and required treatment at different city hospitals.
Ahmedul Bashar, Chhatra League president of the university said that Debu’s group had attacked them over a ‘silly matter’. He however refused to explain what this may be.
Other students of the university said that they clashed over a bidding tender in the university development works.
Police sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Shardar Nizamul Haque, said that police had brought the situation under control at around 4:00am.
