TIB wants regulatory commission

Staff Correspondent

The executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh, Iftekharuzzaman, on Thursday urged the government to form an independent regulatory commission for ensuring proper use of the climate change fund.
He expressed his concern over political interference into the government’s projects taken up to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, and observed that the project would not achieve its target due the political interference.
He came up with the remarks at a human chain organised by TIB in front of the National Press Club.
Iftekhar said that the government has set up an annual climate change trust fund with its own resources. Bangladesh also expected to receive a large amount of money from development partners for the climate change resilience fund. But it is necessary to ensure transparency and accountability in the projects.
The delegates of Climate Finance Governance Network Bangladesh and Bangladesh Water Integrity Network also took part in the human chain.
