Business people play a major role in a county’s march forward, said Latifur Rahman, chairman and chief operating officer of Transcom Group, at a reception hosted on Sunday on his winning the Oslo Business for Peace Award 2012.
‘We have been able to maintain a GDP growth at the rate of six for the last 10 years. Businessmen could make it eight per cent per year if conditions remain stable,’ he said.
‘But it is not up to us to create the conditions, like infrastructure development,’ he said.
Latifur said Bangladesh possessed potential not only because it had enthusiastic entrepreneurs but also hard working people and workers.
Business leaders attended the reception hosted by 15 chambers, including International Chambers of Commerce, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Metropolitan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
