Grid versus solar electricity

SA Mansoor, Dhaka

A HALF-PAGE write-up titled ‘Renewable energy versus grid electricity’ was published by a local English-language daily on May 29. The article was neither written by nor attributed to any known and acknowledged source.
In my view, there was nothing about renewable energy in the whole write-up, except generalities. It was all about getting solar power from ECO Distribution Ltd, a subsidiary of ECO Group. I wonder if it was an indirect advertisement for the ECO Group. If so, then it was not ethical. Whoever wrote it has superficial or very little knowledge about various renewable sources of energy.
Nothing was mentioned about possibilities of wind power and bio-gas power generation, except as a passing remark. I wonder if the write-up was paid for by the ECO Group. The style and language of presentation was confusing, to say the least! I quote one sentence which stated: ‘We hope, coming days of the world renewable energy is the best technology for the grid electricity and to the Planet.’  Another classic sentence was: ‘Hilarious matter that, the policy has plaudit by the experts of the Renewable Energy Industrialists but it cannot legally enforceable till now because it has no affiliation by the Parliament.’ I wonder if readers can make any sense from this.
All said and done, it was nothing but a subtle appeal to the authorities that ECO Group can supply solar power and that if suitable incentives are given it will find a good market.
