PROTEST AGAINST ROAD ACCIDENT

Locals block Sylhet-Tamabil Road

Staff Correspondent . Sylhet

Local people of Khadimpara in Sylhet city blocked Sylhet-Tamabil Highway for more than an hour after a man was killed in a road accident on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Mir Zahed Ahmed, 23, a mason, son of Mir Sayef Ali of Khadimpara under Shah Paran Police station in the city.
Witnesses said a stone-loaded truck ran over a rickshaw on Sylhet-Tamabil Highway in front of Sadar Upazila Council at Khadimpara at about 9:00pm, leaving the rickshaw passenger, Zahed, dead on the spot. The rickshaw-puller was also injured seriously.
Being agitated, the local people put barricade on the highway in protest at the incident that continued till 10:30pm, forcing several hundred vehicles to keep stranded at both sides of the highway.
On information, the Shah Paran Police went to the spot and managed the agitated locals to withdraw road barricade after arresting the truck diver from Majortila in the city.
The Shah Paran police officer-in-charge, Enamul Manwar, told New Age on Wednesday afternoon that the victim’s relatives were preparing to file a case in this connection.
