Tuku advises newsmen to keep off police

Staff Correspondent

The state minister for home, Shamsul Haque Tuku, on Tuesday advised journalists stay away from law enforcers when they collect news.
‘Unwarranted incidents can be avoided if journalists collect news at a safe distance from law enforcers,’
Shamsul said as he spoke as chief guest at a seminar, ‘Militancy and
hartal: barriers to development,’ organised by the Digital Bangladesh Forum at the Dhaka Reporter’s Unity.
The home minister, Sahara Khatn, meanwhile in another incident, left the place when the programme was still going on as journalists asked her if the home minister should resign in the wake of torture of and attack on journalists.
The minster was chief guest in a programme marking Anti-Tobacco Day, which falls on May 31. Manosh, an organisation working against drug addition, was holding a press briefing and the launch of its web site in the programme.
When the journalists present there called her attention to the attack on journalists at bdnews24.com office, she said, ‘If you have any queries, come to my office. I cannot answer such questions as I am here to attend a programme.’ She left the place at one point.
