Team BJMC’s Guinean forward Ismael Bangoura (C) celebrates after completing his hat-trick against Farashganj SC during their Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday. — New Age photo Newcomers BJMC rode on a hat-trick from Guinean Ismael Bangoura to beat Farashganj Sporting Club 3-1 in the Bangladesh Premier League on Monday.
Bangoura, who scored a brace against Brother Union last week, scored the first goal late in the first half while he netted two other in the second half at the Bangabandhu National Stadium to secure full three points for his side.
Farashganj, who earned a name for their giant-killing acts, were fighting neck and neck with their heavyweight opponents from the very beginning but a penalty, awarded against them two minutes before half-time, reduced their pace for a while.
BJMC won the penalty after Farashganj’s Devis Mario had felled striker Baybeck Fambogue in the area. Bangoura converted from the spot.
The Guinean forward entered the opposition penalty area after a nice one-two with his Nigerian team-mate Ajugan Abdul Rasheed eight minutes into the second-half and finished from close range to double the lead.
BJMC, however, endured some tense moments after Farashganj came back strongly in the match with a 64-minute strike by their Congolese striker Zunapio.
The old Dhaka outfit were desperately looking for an equaliser and adopted an all-out strategy which eventually cost them as they conceded another goal that ended all their hopes.
Bangoura found the Farashganj goalkeeper Atiqul Islam Tareq alone in their penalty area after receiving the ball on the counter-attack and chipped it over the keeper to complete his first hat-trick of the season.
With this win BJMC climbed up to their highest third place with 23 points they earned from 13 matches while Faarshganj remained at their previous eighth position with 14 points from 13 matches.
