Artist Mrinal Kanti Das pays tribute to motherhood through his ongoing solo art exhibition titled Wings of Desire at Dhaka Art Center to celebrate International Mother’s Day.
Mrinal Kanti has portrayed woman figures in abstract form to rejoice the spirit of motherhood. His abstract works deal with every women emotion such as love, care, enthusiasm and boldness in different mediums such as sketches and colourful acrylic, pastel and watercolour paintings.
Some of the aesthetically rich canvases portray women’s beauty in midst with nature. Some of the artworks also demonstrate the inner pain and sufferings of women. An abstract black and white drawing on display portrays similarity between a tree and a woman to articulate simplicity of both of them through use of very delicate lines.
Another displayed acrylic on canvas piece, Duality, portrays the complicated status of women minds through abstractions. The use of vivid colours such as red, green, yellow and black in the artistically rich composition, get plaudits from the viewers.
Moonstruck, an acrylic painting, depicts the powerful characteristics of women. A white figure with wings articulates the strength of the hidden willpower in women. Perhaps, the composition is depiction of artist’s personal perspective.
The eight-day exhibition was inaugurated by the artist’s mother Promali Das on May 18. Foreign minister Dr Dipu Moni and internationally acclaimed artist Monirul Islam were also present on the occasion to encourage artist Mrinal Kanti, who is also known for his sculptures and figurative works.
Exhibition will remain open for all from 3: pm to 8:00 pm till 26th May.
