Teachers’ salary

SALARY of a government schoolteacher is often lower than that of a clerk although the former is more qualified than the latter. Non-government schoolteachers’ salary is poorer than that of a peon in the private sector.
In many non-governmental organisation-run schools a teacher gets a monthly salary of Tk 1,000-1,500 whereas a security guard is paid around Tk 4,500. In fact, a teacher’s pay is lower than a day labourer who gets around Tk 240 per day even at the district level.
Whereas everyone, in government or NGOs, says teachers are the nation-builders, it is a pity that they have to take to the street in demand for a decent salary.
