Number of diarrhoea patients increases

The diarrhoea situation across the country remained unchanged as a large number of patients were admitted to different hospitals during last week, health officials said.
Around 670 patients were admitted to different hospitals in 14 districts in last 48 hours, said
officials at the control
room of the directorate general of health services on Friday.
The control room medical officer Noor Faisal said more people had been affected with diarrhoea in Gazipur, Feni, Jaypurhat, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Pabna, Jessore, Barguna and Comilla.
Till afternoon of Friday, they got report from only two districts— Gazipur and Pabna.
The civil surgeon’s office in Dhaka reported that 51 patients had been admitted to different hospitals in
the city.
International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases Research, Bangladesh, received 316 diarrhoea patients until 3:00pm on Friday while the figure was 283 on Thursday.
A total of 570 patients were admitted to ICDDR,B on Thursday and 553
patients on Wednesday,
the officials of ICDDR,B said.
The ICCDDR,B has arranged extra beds in tents to receive new arrivals to
its 500-bed hospital.
M Ruhul Amin, professor of Dhaka Shishu Hospital, said that people should take enough pure water during this period.
He also recommended for fresh home-made food and asked people to avoid eating at roadside shops.
Doctors at ICDDR,B hospital advised patients to take more oral saline at the initial stage.
They prescribed immediate hospitalisation of diarrhoea patients as soon as their condition deteriorated.
All diarrhoea patients, including children, should be given normal food and saline and water should be boiled for more than 10 minutes to make it safe for drinking.
