Awareness stressed to address environment pollution

Staff Correspondent

Minister for environment and forest Hasan Mahmud on Friday said only law was not sufficient to stop environment pollution.
He emphasised awareness building among common people to protect environment and urged the countrymen to stand united against the polluters to protect the country.
He told this while addressing as chief guest a seminar on ‘role of government, voluntary organisations and mass-media to implement environment conservation programmes’ organised by Samajik Paribesh O Mnabadhikar Bastabayan Sangstha at the National Press Club.
Hasan Mahmaud said it was the duty of all the citizens to preserve the environment. ‘Building awareness is not only the government’s responsibility but also the responsibility of social organisations and mass media.’
‘Government is very much sincere about environment protection as they enacted a new environment court act 2010,’ he added.
The Sangstha chairman, HM Ibrahim Bhuiyan, presented the keynote paper in the seminar presided over by former lawmaker Sayed Abu Hossain Babla.
Media men and leaders of social organisations also spoke in the seminar.
