Humayun Azad case

Supplementary charge sheet Monday: CID

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha . Dhaka

Criminal Investigation Department will Monday submit a supplementary charge sheet in a case for attempt to kill late professor of Bangla Department of Dhaka University Humayun Azad on February 27, 2002.
‘We have already completed reinvestigation into the case and are now scrutinising it,’ senior assistant superintendent of police of CID Fazlul Kabir told the news agency Friday.
Five more operatives of the banned outfit Jamaatul
Mujahideen Bangladesh including Salehuddin Salehin, Mizanur Rahman Minhaz, M Rafiq Hasan Rasel alias Hafiz Mahmud and Golam Mostofa alias Mostofa will be indicted in the supplementary charge sheet, CID officials said.
The name of Nurul Hafez will be excluded from the proposed supplementary charge sheet as he died, the sources said.
After more than four years and nine months of the attempt on Azad’s life, CID on November 11, 2007 submitted the first charge sheet accusing five operatives of the JMB.
The first charge sheeted accused are JMB chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman, his brother Ataur Rahman Sunny, his second-in-command Siddiqur Rahman alias Bangla Bhai, Nur Mohammad Shibu alias Shamim alias Mizanur Rahman and Anwarul Alam alias Bhagne Shaheed.
Of them, Shaikh Abdur Rahman, Bangla Bhai and Sunny were executed in a two judges’ killing case in Jhalakati.
Two JMB operatives, Bhagne Sheheed and Mizanur Rahman, made confessional statements under section 164 before the court.
On August 11, 2004, professor Azad was found dead in his apartment in Munich, Germany. Officials of the German embassy in Dhaka informed his family of the matter the next day. He was staying alone in the apartment on the Munich University campus since his arrival on August 8.
