Rajuk allots 60 Jhilmil plots quietly

Staff Correspondent

The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha on Sunday stealthily allotted 50 plots under five categories through ‘lottery’ and 10 plots in one category without lottery in its Jhilmil Residential Area project in Keraniganj area.
Unlike in the past, the city development authorities did not issue any notice or put any advertisement in newspapers before drawing the lottery. The lottery was drawn at Bangladesh Secretariat.
Earlier on April 11, the RAJUK allotted 520 plots of Jhilmil Residential Area without drawing lottery to select the allottees under five categories.
Of the six categories, retired government officers and employees were selected by the ministry for ten five-katha and three-katha plots. Ten plots were allotted through lottery against each of the five categories—journalists, lawyers, agriculturists, engineers and physicians.
Asked why the RAJUK maintained secrecy in drawing the lottery, RAJUK chairman Nurul Huda told New Age that there was no secrecy in drawing the lottery.
‘We did not issue notice and the lottery was drawn inside the secretariat because the number plots to be allotted are very few, not because we wanted to maintain secrecy,’ he said.
He said the same number of plots will again be allotted among the five categories—journalists, lawyers, agriculturists, engineers and physicians—through a selection process.
Meanwhile, RAJUK has extended deadline by one month for applying for flats in Uttara.
