3 unnatural deaths, 2 shot at in capital
Staff CorrespondentAt least three people were killed in separate incidents while two were shot at by snatchers in the capital on Friday.
At Badda, a private company employee was killed in a road accident at Merul Badda on Kuril Bishwaroad Friday afternoon.
The deceased was Mazharul Islam, 26, customer care officer of Airtel, was a resident of West Rampura.
Badda police subinspector Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman said a bus of Bandhu Paribahan hit him when he was going to his office by a rickshaw at Gulshan at about 2:00pm, leaving him critically injured.
He died on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The driver, however, managed to escape soon after the accident, the police said.
A case was filed in this connection.
At Khilgaon, a carpenter was electrocuted at Dakhin Banasree of Khilgaon in the morning.
The deceased was Jamal Hossain, 35, was from Madaripur Sadar upazila. He was a resident of Nurbagh of Goran in the city.
Local people said he came into contact with a live electric wire at about 11:00am when he was painting a wall of a building at Banasree. He died on the way to hospital.
At Cantonment, an unidentified man, aged about 26, was found dead behind a five-storey building in the area at about 11:30am.
Cantonment police subinspector Khandakar Abu Nayem said being informed they recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the DMCH morgue for post-mortem examination.
A case was filed in this connection.
There were some injury marks on his head, chest and nose, said the police.
At Mohammadpur, a gang of snatchers shot at two people while they were walking on the road in the area during load shedding early Friday.
The victims are Matiur Rahman Bakul, 26, a real-estate businessman and his neighbour Rafiqul Islam, 40.
Mohammadpur police subinspector Aminul Islam said the gang numbering four to five, coming with a private car, attacked Kulsum Akhter, 22, wife of Matiur Rahman Bakul, to snatch her ornaments in front of their house on Sir Salimullah Road at Mohammadpur at about 1:30am while she was walking with her husband.
The snatchers had shot at her husband while he was trying to resist them. The gang had also shot at their neighbour as he came to help them, said the police.
Matiur had received bullets on his left chest side while Rafiqul received bullets on his right hand, the police added.
The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
