The Dhaka Metropolitan Police will deploy newly imported remote control bomb disposal robot ‘Improvised Explosive Devise Unit’ as part of the security measure taken for Pahela Baishakh celebrations at Ramna Batamul in the capital.
The DMP commissioner, Benazir Ahmed, disclosed this in a news briefing at Media and Community Service Center Thursday afternoon.
‘Although ensuring security for the huge gathering is very challenging, we have taken all necessary steps to prevent any untoward incident,’ he said.
Every year about 10 to 12 lakh people gather at Ramna Batamul, Suhrawardy Udyan and its adjacent areas to celebrate the Bengali New Year, he added.
Plain-clothes police would also be deployed in the area and they would tracked by digital tracking system, the commissioner said.
‘Beside deploying law enforcing personnel, we will also control the traffic, which will be changed from its normal routes on the occasion,’ he said.
Eight check posts would be setup at different corners on the festival premises, he added.
Special weapons and tactics, bomb disposal unit, dog squad, CCTV, rooftop police, plainclothes police, women police teams would be deployed and metal detector archways would be placed at all major celebration venues, he added.
