CU gets ready for Pahela Baishakh celebrations

CU Correspondent

Chittagong University gets ready to welcome Bangla New Year through various types of celebrations.
The university authorities and several other organisations have finalised their preparations to celebrate Pahela Baishakh on April 14.
The programmes will include colourful parade from the university’s station gate, tribal dance, discussion, satire discussion between the student and teachers and a wrestling match that is locally known as Boli Khela and folk fair.
Dramatics students will also stage a drama titled Pari Banu, based on the war of independence in 1971, on the campus.
Sanchita Acharya, Kalyany Ghosh and Mahmuduzzaman Babu are likely to perform at the Pahela Baishakh programmes scheduled to be held centring Jarul Tala.
Meanwhile, the university authorities had also taken especial security measures as the campus is very much vulnerable to political unrest, confirmed assistant procor AKM Ziaur Rahman.
Officials said a significant number of police, Rapid Action Battalion and armed police would be deployed to ensure law and order.
The administration had already held meeting with different political organisations and law enforcers to avert any untoward situation.
Pahela Baishakh Celebration Committee convener Allauddin, also pro-vice chancellor of the university, said, ‘The university authorities take maximum and necessary steps to observe Pahela Baishakh successfully.’
