Narayanganj faces severe gas crisis

Our Correspondent . Narayanganj

The worst gas crisis in the city of Narayanganj is disrupting households and industries for last
few months, say the city dwellers and entrepreneurs.
City people complain that they have to pay Tk 450 as monthly gas connection charge for a double-burner cooker thought they are not getting the least amount of gas to light the cookers in daytime.
Housewife Shamima has said she often cook for the family very early in the morning as gas pressure falls at sunrise and rise after about 11:00pm.
Officials of the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company limited in the city have said that most of the gas they are getting goes to power generation projects and CNG filling stations.
Titas gas officials have also said huge number of consumers in the city works behind the scene.
Titas Gas Narayanganj manager Shafikur Rahman has informed that there are 35,000 domestic consumers, 300 commercial, 400 industrial and 6 filling station consumers only at Fatulla in the city.
Several political and social organisations have been demonstrating for regular gas supply at
households and industries for last few years,
but no efficient or
sustainable steps were
taken yet, complain city people.
