2 killed as AL, BNP clash in Meherpur

United News of Bangladesh . Meherpur

Two persons were killed and 10 others injured in a clash between the activists of ruling Awami League and the opposition BNP over a land dispute at Chargoal village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on Monday.
The dead were Atahar, 40, and Habel, 45, of the village.
The Gangni thana officer-in-charge, Golam Mostafa, said the clash ensued between the supporters of local BNP leaders Najir and Imarat and Awami League leader Rahatul Sheikh over grabbing a piece of khas land at about 12 noon that left Awami League activist Habel dead on the spot.
Seriously injured Atahar was first taken to Gangni Upazila Health Complex and he died on way to Kushtia General Hospital. The other injured were admitted to the health complex.
Being outraged at the death of Awami League activist Habel, local AL activists
torched 10 houses at Refugee para.
Fire fighters rushed to spot to douse the fire. Additional RAB and police forces have been deployed.
