JU teachers lock up VC’s office

JU Correspondent

A number of Jahangirnagar University teachers teamed up as Shikkhak Samaj on Saturday locked up the office of the vice-chancellor and sat in there for two hours demanding immediate resignation of the vice-chancellor.
Teachers were on demonstrations as part of their 10-day protests to push for the resignation of the vice-chancellor,  Shariff Enamul Kabir.
Nasim Akter Hossain, who is leading the platform of teachers, along with representatives of ongoing movement confined the pro-vice-chancellor  Farhad Hossain, treasurer Nasir Uddin, registrar Abu Bakker Siddique, members of proctorial body, teachers and numbers of employees to the office between 10:30am and 12:30pm. The vice-chancellor was not present.
A discussion meeting also was also held at the place criticising irregularities of the vice-chancellor and the university administration.
The speakers said that the vice-chancellor has no right to remain in the post as he is still patronising BCL activists said to have killed Zubair.
Zubair, a fourth-year student of English, was tortured by the Chhatra League activists on January 8 and he died from his injuries in United Hospital early January 9.
They said that the vice-chancellor was involved in recruitment business and was not holding elections to the positions of the vice-chancellor and deans and to the senate and the
syndicate.
The Jahangirnagar University Teachers’’Association president, AA Mamun, said that tougher programmes would be announced if the vice-chancellor did not resign by March.
