CCC to set up satellite town at Kalurghat

Tushar Hayat . Chittagong

The Chittagong City Corporation will build a satellite town, Sampan Satellite Town, having 3000 apartments, at Kalurghat in the city in a bid to meet the ever deepening residential problems of the city dwellers.
The city mayor, M Manjur Alam, Wednesday told New Age, ‘The decision was approved at the 19th general meeting of the corporation in order to   address the residential crisis of the city.’
Admitting that ‘if not wholly’, the setting up of the town, however, will ease residential problems of the dwellers ‘to some extent’, he said, adding, ‘there will be all sorts of modern facilities in the town.’
The mayor also said, ‘This international standard satellite town project will be implemented maintaining the green architecture norms to avoid adverse impact on environment.’
He also said, without mentioning any particular date, that they were optimistic about implementation of the project within several months.
The first-time mayor also said more such satellite towns would be built at other parts of the city.
The CCC chief said, ‘The satellite town Sampan will be set up on a total of 11:5 acres of land beside BFIDC road at Kalurghat. We will set up the town in partnership with different efficient developers of the country.’
A senior CCC source informed that the proposed satellite town would be divided into nine blocks, with helipad on each of the buildings to evacuate the dwellers in case any emergency situation.
