Minuddin wins Best Painting Award
Cultural CorrespondentArtist Md Minuddin won the Best Media Award in Painting for his fabulous oil painting on canvas title
End of the Music-1, at the 18th Young Artists’ Art Exhibition organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
This award winning painting along with another painting of his recent End of the Music series is on display at the exhibition that highlights the dwindling folk music in Bangladesh.
His award winning painting depicts a man playing a flute. The talented artist has made the face blurred of the folk musician creating various textures on his face of the man. ‘To portray the impression of dwindling folk music, I’ve depicted various irregular lines and textures, representing various aggressions on the traditional cultures which have drastically sidelined,’ Minuddin told New Age.
Minuddin’s depiction of such themes through his figurative works has given him recognition at the national and international level. An MFA student of the painting department of Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, Md. Minuddin is the winner of 18 prestigious awards.
He got ‘Best Drawing Award’ at the South Asian Universities Youth Festival in 2010 for his pencil drawing titled ‘Festival’ featuring baul singers in a festive mood.
Minuddin also clinched two ‘Best Media Award in Drawing’ at the annual Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Art Exhibition organised by the FFA, in the year 2004 and 2006, for his figurative drawings titled ‘My Uncle’ and ‘Ismail Boyati’, respectively.
Minuddin won grand prize for his series work ‘The Lost’ at the Nawab Sir Shamsul Huda Art Competition. He is also three times winner of Artist Aminul Islam Scholarship from the FFA and Berger Young Painters Art Competition awards.
‘My oil painting “Kaan Petey Roi” was selected from a grand exhibition of 150 prominent and promising artists of Bangladesh to mark the 150th anniversary of Nobel Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore organised by Shilpakala Academy as part of India-Bangladesh joint venture. It was also displayed along with selected 50 artworks at the mobile exhibition in India,’ he said.
