Muktijoddha Sangsad KC retained their top spot in the Bangladesh Premier League despite being held to a goalless draw by Mohammedan in their fifth game on Wednesday.

In the day’s match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, both the teams squandered the scoring chances they got while Muktijoddha claimed to have been denied of a goal by the assistant referee.
A long-range effort by Muktijoddha midfielder Ariful Islam hit the crosspiece in the 61st minute and the rebounder entered into the net off the gloves of Mohammedan goalkeeper Arifuzzaman Himel when he attempted to clear it.
But the assistant referee Shahidul Islam Lalu ruled out the goal for offside although none of the Muktijoddha players tried to touch the ball.
‘This is a bizarre decision! None of my players tried to touch the ball. So there is no chance of any offside. This is poor refereeing,’ Muktijoddha coach Shahidul Islam Manik said.
Manik alleged that their opponents had adopted a negative strategy which was also responsible for their surprise draw against a less experienced side.
‘My opponents played with a negative attitude. They wasted time and played a physical game. They did not play for a win but kept defending for a draw. It cannot be called a good attitude,’ Manik said.
Mohammedan coach Emeka Ezeugo, however, said that it was his credit that he could successfully hold a strong team like Muktijoddha and he did not care about what the opponents were saying.
‘Go and tell him [Manik] that it was my tactics and I was successful at the end. He should be ashamed that he could not score having such good players in his team,’ Emeka said.
Mohammedan, who in fact were busy defending most of the time, however, came close to a goal in counter-attacks on a couple of occasions.
