Law and order
The frequency of gruesome murders has increased by worrying proportions in Bangladesh.
However, while we demand speedy capture of the killers and expect their exemplary punishment to deter other criminals, we cannot distance ourselves as adults from any accountability of failure on our part. While we are clamouring and complaining about the deteriorating law and order situation in the country we need to focus on our own responsibility too. After all, the killers or extortionists are not aliens from outer space - they are our children, students, friends, siblings, and acquaintances.
We are all responsible for making a prosperous Bangladesh. Therefore, we need to participate positively to contribute to the well being of our nation. Together we can start a new chapter in our nation’s history. We as parents, teachers, co-workers, siblings, friends, and neighbours can help our kids and near and dear ones to grow to be good, honest human beings by inculcating moral values in them.
To achieve this, the first and most important step is to maintain a happy and close-knit family. Then we all have to act as good role models for our kids to follow. Then we have to focus on our education curricula, which should be geared to emphasise high moral values in all levels of education starting from pre-school. By doing this, our children will grow up not only knowing what is right and wrong, but as young adults they will possess a natural instinct and inborn aversion to corruption and criminal activities. They will know money is not everything. They will learn to be content with whatever possessions they have and be thankful for all of their blessings. They will know that demanding money from others is not proper conduct.
Moreover, earning your own money is always more honourable and prestigious than being a money-sucking parasite. They will feel with their heart that forgiveness is better than settling a score or taking revenge. After all, our wise Creator has already arranged a Day of Final Judgement, so what’s the rush?
