Pathos begins at Bengal Gallery
Khamin
The 20th solo exhibition ‘Pathos’ by Ranjit Das is being held at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts in Dhanmondi. The exhibition, inaugurated on May 28, will remain open from 12:00pm to 8:00pm till June 10. Forty-three recent paintings of the artist are on display. Each of them tries to narrate to the viewers the sad, struggling and anguished mood of the people. The painter has tried to capture the pathos of the people in frames. The artist displays ‘Cheerful Voyage-4’, ‘Dialogue with Nature-1’, ‘Narrator of the Age-2’, ‘Jovial Mood-3’ and ‘Distinct Look-2’ among the forty-three of his paintings. Especially, the painting titled ‘Searching for Soul-3’, (oil on canvas) draws the attention of the viewers. According to the artist this painting depicts his travels from the past to the present and subsequently to the future. In the painting, the artist has used the image of the two hands, one of Adam and the other of God, in the masterpiece ‘Creation of Adam’ of Michelangelo. The crying of a human being is also portrayed in Ranjit’s work. The ‘Distinct of Look-2’ (acrylic on canvas) depicts two faces, one of a woman and the other of a child. Both of them wear worried expressions and are in sad mood. In the painting ‘Cheerful Voyage-2’ (oil on canvas) the artist has presented a young woman rearing a flock of ducks keeping a long stick in her hand. ‘I like this painting very much as these are attractive ducks,’ says Nova Tarek, an eight-year girl who came with her father at the exhibition. Another viewer of the exhibition Kamrul Hassan, says, ‘All the paintings have touched me and I thank the painter for arranging this exhibition’. Most of the paintings have been painted in metallic colour and the painter has given emphasis on black. The painter has been influenced to paint these kinds of paintings after the death of his father. ‘Ranjit is very devoted in paintings, I am proud of him,’ says Basanti Das, mother of Ranjit. Recalling her memories she further says, ‘he used to forget to have his meal and was engrossed in his works.’
