Symphony of Nature at Bengal Gallery
Khamin
The solo photography exhibition of Khan Rezaul Hoq Bulbul, titled ‘Symphony of Nature’ is being held at Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts in Dhanmondi. The photography exhibition, inaugurated on April 24 will remain open to all from 12:00pm to 8:00pm till April 30. Bulbul in his 84 photographs has tried to capture different forms and figures of nature in his camera. All photographs are in black and white. In his photographs he has presented various elements of nature, such as, trunks, leaves and branches of tress. He has also presented birds and flowers. Bulbul, an engineer, and also a collector of arts and antiques, involves himself in photography as he considers the medium as his real passion. As the photographer is also a painter, viewers will get the influence of paintings in some of his photographs. Using the cameras Lieca and SLR Nikon the photographer has tried to discover the beauty of nature using the magic of black and white. The photograph titled ‘Symphony of Nature-28’ captures curbed trunks of a tree and some birds are taking rest. Interestingly, the photograph shows the disarrayed and leafless boughs in different sizes and shapes. But the leafless branches become lively when the photographer catches three birds in different moods. The viewers will get the influence of architecture in these kinds of photographs. ‘Symphony of Nature-27’ reminds the viewers that trees always stand on earth for providing shelter. But the photographer is unique in composition because, to many, the trunk can seem a path that brings the viewers to infinity. In the photograph ‘Symphony of Nature-4’, Bulbul has shown a bunch of flowers. By taking away the colours of the flowers, Bulbul has created the impact of black and white. Viewers will also be delighted seeing the photograph ‘Symphony of Nature-15’. The photographer has taken the image of four fowls in black and white. Among them the brighter one has created the mystery of light and shadow.
Tarantino up for top Cannes prize
BBC
Quentin Tarantino’s World War II saga Inglorious Bustards is one of several major titles that will compete for the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize. Others include Ken Loach’s Looking for Eric, starring French footballer Eric Cantona, and the latest films from Ang Lee, Pedro Almodovar and Jane Campion. Twenty films in total will compete for the coveted Palme d’Or at this year’s event, which runs from 13 to 24 May. Tarantino won the Palme d’Or in 1994 with his second film Pulp Fiction. The 46-year-old is the only American director in contention for the prize, won last year by French school drama The Class. Loach’s inclusion in this year’s line-up marks the ninth time the veteran British director has been shortlisted for the Golden Palm. The 73-year-old won the prize in 2006 with his historical Irish drama The Wind That Shook the Barley. Lee, previously shortlisted in 1997 for The Ice Storm, will return in May with Taking Woodstock, a comedy about the iconic 1969 rock festival. French actress Isabelle Huppert heads the jury for the 62nd festival, which will launch with a screening of Pixar animation Up.
