A two-day children theatre festival began at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangla- desh Shilpakala Academy
on Sunday staging a dance drama styled Alor Deshe by Nrityam.
Professor AAMS Arefin Siddiq inaugurated the festival, organised by Bangladesh Children Theatre Federation.
Theatre activist Ataur Rahman attended the ceremony as chief guest with BCTF chairman Sharfiqur Rahman Takdir in the chair.
Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation general secretary Jhuna Chowdhury, theatre personality Golam Sarwar, among others, also attended the ceremony as guests.
Before opening the festival, the organisers denounced the activities of the religious bigots who forced the government to pull down the baul sculptures at airport roundabout.
The speakers thanked the organisers for holding a festival featuring the performances by the children.
Africa, Amrao Manush, Hature Dactar and Ebarer Sangram were also staged on the opening day.
‘We will stage five plays a day,’ said Takdir adding ‘We want to hold regular shows of the children’.
A total of 10 theatre groups are participating at the festival, said the organisers.
‘We will honour the groups with crests to encourage them for staging more shows of children,’ Takdir said.
The festival will end today staging Rater Pari, Ekjan Amena, Bhutrajya, Rajar Abak Saja and Pratikka.
